MC Jeonghae expressed her disappointment that the 7th Session was the last session! She started the session by reading the reviews from last class. One touching comment was from Ivy Luna who said “HACD, I can’t thank you enough for your selfless service and charity for humanity!” Definitely! It’s hard to believe that these extraordinary lectures are free as well! Thank you Ivy Luna!

Mr. Lee from the Philippines started the lecture by introducing us to the book “Asian Millenarianism” written by Hong-Beom Rhee. This book mentions the Hongik Ingan ideology and the Donghak Movement. Hongik Ingan means “fostering wide reaching benefits for humanity”. The leader of the Donghak Movement was Choe Su-Un/ Choe Je-U. During this time, the defeat of Russia in the Russo-Japanese War contributed to Korea’s political unrest and the Joseon Dynasty was about to collapse due to Western Expansionism and Imperial Japan. The main ideologies in the Donghak Movement were Hongik Ingan and Gaebyeok (Great Opening to an Ideal World of Yin and Yang Balance).

Next, there was a Q&A session. A lot of interesting questions and thoughts were mentioned by the participants. It’s a bummer that Season 2 has come to an end but there are more events to come! Thank you for reading this review. Come join us for more events and interesting contents in the future!
