MY HACD LEARNING

MY HACD LEARNING

My first day with HACD was new experience and new learning. I don’t know much about Korea and Korean culture, so it’s good opportunity for me.

THE REASON WHY I JOIN

I really like to speak and learn different kind of languages and Cultures. And especially Korean culture is unique.

Korean culture is a combination of tradition and modernity. It includes:

· Arts: Music, painting, calligraphy, crafts, pottery, and architecture
· Festivals: Seollal (Korean New Year), Daeboreum (first full moon), Dano (spring festival), and Chuseok (harvest festival)
· Social customs: Confucian culture, which emphasizes respect for ancestors, age, and seniority
· Religions: Shamanism, Buddhism, Daoism, Confucianism, and Christianity
· Food: Traditional Korean food, as well as Western and other Asian foods

Some taboos in South Korean culture include:
· Not using red ink, which is a symbol of death
· Not using the number four, especially when giving gifts

Other aspects of Korean culture include:
· Traditional dwellings called Hanok
· Traditional costumes called Hanbok
· K-Beauty and K-Fashion

KOREAN HISTORY

Korean history is too old but that’s make it very curious people.

The history of Korea dates back almost 5,000 years. The earliest known Korean pottery dates to around 8000 BC. The Neolithic period began after 6000 BC, followed by the Bronze Age by 2000 BC, and the Iron Age around 700 BC.

Here are some historical periods in Korea:
· Kulp'o Culture, ca. 3000 BCE
· Chulmun Culture, ca. 2000 BCE
· Ch'aemon Culture, ca. 300 BCE
· Old Choson, ca. 100 BCE - 313 CE
· Kaya, 668-936
· United Silla, 890-936
· Later Three Kingdoms, 1231-1336
· Mongol Domination, 918-1392

During the first half of the 1st millennium, Korea was divided between three states, Goguryeo, Baekje, and Silla. In the late 7th century, Silla conquered Baekje and Goguryeo with the aid of the Tang Dynasty.

Korea started modernization and economic development in the late nineteenth century. However, this process was blocked by Japanese colonial annexation in 1910. Rapid economic and industrial development began again in the 1960s.

Concept of Yin and Yang

Yin and yang is a concept in Chinese philosophy that describes two opposing but interconnected forces that make up the universe. The interaction of these forces is thought to maintain the harmony of the universe and influence everything within it.

Yin and yang are associated with the following:
· Yin: Negative, dark, and feminine
· Yang: Positive, bright, and masculine

Yin is associated with: Earth, Femaleness, Darkness, Passivity, Absorption.

Yang is associated with: Heaven, Maleness, Light, Activity, Penetration.

The interaction of yin and yang is thought to maintain the harmony of the universe and influence everything within it.

K-MEDITATION

It taught me that we are living in an era where the early heaven ang the later heaven is intersecting. That’s why we may be in a crisis if we don’t know Gaebyeok, or you may have a chance to overcome Gaebyeok if we know. The most serious problem is to overcome the ultimate disease. And it requires the K-meditation.

COSMIC

· Creation narratives

In Korean creation narratives, heaven and earth were originally fused, and humans and non-humans were indistinct. Two deities competed in a flower-growing contest to decide who would rule the human world.

· Tangun myth

Korea's most treasured myth is the myth of Tangun, which is about the creation of Korea from an existing earth and the humans already living upon it. In the story, a Heavenly Prince, Hwangun, looked down at earth and desired to possess it and rule over mankind.

· Shamanism

Shamanism is the oldest religious idea in Korea. It's the belief that the natural world is filled with spirits, both helpful and harmful, that can be addressed by people with special powers called shamans.

· Cosmic Mountain

The Cosmic Mountain symbolizes the home of the Holy Mother, Sungmo.

· Other Korean beliefs include:
- The Heavenly Emperor, Sang-je, is the king of the gods.
- The major creator god among the Korean gods is Mireuk.
- The “Five Phases” are Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal, and Water.

There are so many things that HACD taught me in over this time and it make me feel proud on myself for joining this amazing organisation or people.
